What is Birthright?

Birthright is a ten-day trip to Israel, run in partnership with UJIA, for young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Who is Birthright for?

Young people aged 18–26 with special educational needs and disabilities

What can Birthright offer my son or daughter?

The trip enables eight people aged 18-26 with a range of complex learning disabilities and associated physical disabilities to experience Israel’s world heritage sites. The trip empowers young people to connect with their religious and cultural identity, whilst travelling with their peers, meeting new people and making new friends.

Without Norwood’s support, the expense and logistics of such a trip would make it inaccessible for many of the people we support due to their need for one to one specialist care.

How can my son or daughter benefit from Birthright?

By participating in Norwood’s Birthright trip, your son or daughter can:

  • enjoy the same opportunity to tour Israel as young people without disabilities
  • connect with their heritage and Jewish identity
  • enjoy increased confidence
  • try new experiences, such as riding a donkey, cycling, having a dip in the Dead Sea, lighting candles in memory of Holocaust victims and posting messages in the Western Wall
  • meet new people and make friends.
