Let’s get physical – Norwood celebrates the end of Learning Disability Week with an inspiring day at the Maccabi GB Fun Run

24 June 2019

Last week [17-23 June 2019], was Learning Disability Week and this year’s theme was Sports and Inclusion. Norwood – the charity for children and families in crisis and adults with learning disabilities and autism – spent the week celebrating the many ways it inspires the people it supports to lead more active and inclusive lives – from swimming to cycling to horse-riding, running and walking.

And what better way to end the week than at the Maccabi GB Fun Run in Allianz Park, where around 50 people from across Norwood’s services took part in various runs.

Background information: A recent Mencap survey of more than 300 people with learning disabilities found that 49 per cent would like to spend more time outside the house. More than two-thirds of people with a learning disability further reported experiencing a sense of isolation. Norwood is committed to extending its reach and effectiveness in championing children, campaigning for inclusion and creating new ways of thinking about disability.
