Landmark Norwood Property Lunch celebrates two decades of towering achievements11 June 2019FundraisingThe annual Norwood Property Lunch took place in the Grand Ballroom of the London Hilton on Park Lane last Friday [7 June 2019].The event celebrated its 20th year in style, raising more than £500,000 on the day, to add to the £8 million the Property Lunch has raised since its inception.About 750 guests were treated to a three-course meal, an auction – hosted by the radio and TV presenter Jonny Gould – a raffle, and a wide-ranging speech by the Right Honourable Michael Gove MP.The talk show host Nick Ferrari was in the crowd and said that the high-profile guest speaker was just one of the reasons he had chosen to attend: “At the moment, I would say that Gove is a very strong second in the contest. So I’m here to see what he has to say, but as a journalist I want Johnson to win it.” And did anything that Gove had to say change his mind? “No,” Ferrari said. “In fact, my choice was confirmed.”There were also four property awards to be handed out and an emotional appeal speech by Elliot Shorrick, whose whole family has been supported by Norwood since his now 13-year-old daughter, Annie, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, epilepsy and autism.Elliot told the crowd: “We wish that we had made that call to Norwood earlier because they took us through all the different areas in which we needed support and lightened the burden. We have opened up to tell our family’s story because it’s our way thanking Norwood for making our lives better. We want you to know that other families will benefit from Norwood’s huge heart and we hope that you will help to make that happen.”Leading figures from across the property industry (and beyond) duly responded, ensuring that the Norwood Property Lunch remains the second most important event in the charity’s calendar, after its Annual Dinner. The awards winners were:Residential Development Award: FinchattonResidential Developer Award: BallymoreCommercial Deal Award: Acquisition of the £1.46bn Network Rail Commercial Estate by Telereal Trillium and Blackstone Property PartnersOutstanding Contribution Award: the Reuben BrothersThe event was sponsored by Derwent London, Dwyer Property and Savills and produced in association with Norwood’s media partner Property Week.
