Blood pumping, sweat and tears at elite property awards dinner

13 February 2019

Some of the biggest names in the UK property sector were recognised at the 13th YN Property Awards Dinner, held at the Royal Lancaster London hotel on Monday 11 February. Awards presented included the Commercial Agent of the Year and the Deal of the Year, as well as the Ones to Watch in the property industry.

The event, attended by 550 guests from across the sector, raised more than £155,000 for Jewish charity Norwood, which supports vulnerable children and their families, children with special educational needs and people with learning disabilities and autism.

Introducing the evening, YN Property Committee member Joey Barnett said that, for the 13th year running, the YN Property Awards Dinner continued to be “THE event for young professionals in the property industry”.

Guests heard about some of the outstanding work Norwood does in the community in a moving speech from Elliot Shorrick, who spoke about how his and his wife Rochelle’s world was “totally blown apart” when their daughter, Annie, who is now 12, was diagnosed with, first paralysis of one side of her body, then epilepsy and then autism.

“We couldn’t cope any more,” he told the rapt audience, “but then Norwood got involved and their support has been all-encompassing. We have opened up to tell our family’s story because it’s our way of giving back to Norwood to say thank-you for making our lives better.”

The heartwrenching effect of Elliot’s speech was offset by a variety of events to warm the spirits: these included an auction hosted by television and radio personality Jonny Gould in which the top lot was Ringside stealth leather boxing gloves, a t-shirt and cap all signed by the unified world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua OBE (which raised £3,000), and a heart-racing Rollapaluza competition, in which guests could get in shape for a Norwood Challenge by sprinting on stationary bikes in a race against time like no other.

With the blood pumping and sweat and tears galore, the 13th YN Property Awards Dinner was a triumph for everyone who attended, and not just the worthy winners.
