Norwood family celebrates at Chanukah party 19 December 2018 Jewish Holidays On Monday 3 December, Norwood hosted a Chanukah party at JCoSS for members of the Norwood family. Trustees joined many employers and volunteers to provide a joyous celebration for well over a hundred adults supported by Norwood in the community, in its residential and supported living services and its Bucket and Spades service. Guests were treated to a delicious dinner, sparkling glitter tattoo art by Go Get Glitter, amazing balloon creations by Miss Ballooniverse and a joyful disco thanks to The Soul Agents. There were also performances from a trio of West End singers, who have starred in shows such as The Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd and Les Miserables. Staff, families and people we support also joined our Chanukah celebration at Ravenswood. Guests enjoyed candle lighting by Rabbi Stanley assisted by residents, as well as a range of fun activities including cake and food stalls, tombola’s and photo booths. Julia Hall, Head of Adult Services at Ravenswood, remarked that the party “brought the true spirit of Chanukah and the Village to life for us all to enjoy together. To see the happiness and hear the laughter, of both people we support and staff, was just magical.” Speaking about the celebrations, Norwood Rabbi Stanley Coten said: “Chanukah is a festival which celebrates the Jewish people standing up to and overpowering the powerful Syrian Greeks two thousand years ago. It is a festival of hope and optimism which is embraced by Norwood as here we work tirelessly to support those with learning difficulties to stand up and speak up for themselves”.
