Norwood joins #givingtuesday movement to encourage people to do “good stuff” this Christmakah

20 November 2018

Norwood has announced its workforce is taking part in this year’s #givingtuesday campaign (27 November 2018).

To celebrate #givingtuesday, staff from across all of Norwood’s frontline services and offices, in London and the South-East, will be dressing in blue, baking and participating in selfie competitions – all to fundraise money for Norwood on this day of action.

The campaign, which began in America, is an antidote to the mass consumerism of Black Friday and aims to get people thinking of others in the run up to Chanukah and Christmas, be it through donating to charity, volunteering or simply helping a friend, neighbour or family member.

Since its inception in 2014, #givingtuesday has become one of the biggest events in the global charity calendar, breaking successive Guinness World Records for the most amount of money donated online to charity in 24 hours. In 2016, £48 million was donated online via PayPal with the UK accounting for the second largest amount of donations.

This year, PayPal are doubling donations received through the PayPal fundraising page and app, up to a maximum of £50,000 total matching donations on the day.

To get your donations doubled this #givingtuesday by supporting Norwood, visit the PayPal App or fundraising page: www.paypal.com/gb/fundraiser/charity/11765.

Ben Russell, Director of Communications at Charities Aid Foundation, said: “If we all do something small this #givingtuesday, it could make a real difference to millions of people.”

Kerry Roberts, Head of Workforce Development at Norwood, said: “This is the second year Norwood has participated in #givingtuesday and this year promises to be even bigger and better than the last.

“We are delighted that this year our staff are participating alongside donors, helping us forge ever closer to the £12m in voluntary donations we need each and every year to deliver our vital service in the community.”
