What happens when charity fuses with fashion 12 October 2018 Fundraising On Wednesday, 10 October 2018 more than 220 guests came together for a fashion show with a purpose, raising £65,000 for Jewish charity Norwood. Norwood, together with Harpers, an iconic multi-brand boutique, held its annual Ladies Lunch fundraising event with all proceeds raised from the event donated to the leading charity. This year the ever popular event was held on World Mental Health Day, seeing fashion used as a launch pad to raise awareness of the impact mental health issues are having on the young, an issue close to the charity’s heart. The inclusion of adults supported by Norwood in the fashion line-up also added a poignant touch to the event, reflecting Norwood’s commitment to enabling choice for the people supported by the charity. Dr Beverley Jacobson, Norwood Chief Executive said: “The Ladies Lunch is an inspiring example of the impact the community can have in coming together to support Norwood’s work. And with the event being held on World Mental Health Day, this year is even more significant. Through Norwood’s work we see day in, day out the complex range of challenges young people face today. Bullying, anxiety and low self-esteem are just some of the issues suffered by the young people who come to us. It gives me great pleasure to team up with Harpers to raise awareness of and funding toward supporting good mental health in our community.” Katherine Isaacs, Ladies Lunch Committee Chair said: “It is always a huge privilege to organise the Norwood Ladies Lunch. This year we are so excited to have hosted our very first fashion show in collaboration with Harpers boutique. Our aim is to entertain our guests while they learn about and raise much needed funds for the vital work that Norwood does every day of every year to operate services which support the most vulnerable families and children within our community.” Karol Solomons, Harpers founder and proprietor said: “I know many people who have benefited from Norwood’s services and so it is a charity whose work I truly believe in. I am often approached to put on fashion shows for charity, but rarely do. That’s what makes today’s Ladies Lunch so special as all of the funds received will go toward raising vital funds for a meaningful cause. I am truly honoured to help.” Norwood offers support for young people and families affected by mental health issues.
