Dreams come true at Chanukah Toy Sweep

8 December 2015

Excited children thronged the aisles of Brent Cross Toys R Us on Sunday, at the 16th annual Norwood Toy Sweep. Along with their families, the children, who all use Norwood services, were given a voucher to pick the toy of their choice. For little legs worn out by all that shopping there were volunteers on hand to serve doughnuts, sweets and drinks.

Staff also collected toys for Norwood’s after-school and holiday clubs and short-break service for children with special educational needs, the toy library and its three children and family centres. The event is organised by the Toy Sweep Committee, who fundraise tirelessly in the run up to the day itself. This year they purchased almost £4,500 worth of brand new toys.

Debra Kleinman, Toy Committee Chair said: "Seeing the smiles of delight on the children’s faces makes it all worthwhile. For some children and young people with additional needs it can be more difficult for them to simply have fun and play, and it’s wonderful to know that by providing these much needed toys, we’re making a real difference to their lives."
