Property industry’s biggest charity event raises almost half a million

22 June 2015

Norwood's annual Property Lunch on Friday 19 June raised £470,000 for the charity, which supports children with special educational needs, vulnerable children and their families and adults with learning disabilities.

More than 670 professionals from across the property, law and finance sectors attended what has become the industry’s largest charity event, held at the Lancaster London Hotel.

Veteran broadcaster and journalist Andrew Neil entertained guests with his witty and incisive post-general election analysis, as well as delivering a raft of predictions for the future of the four main parties, pensions, the economy and the EU.

Mark Pollack, Norwood Trustee, Chair of Fundraising and Property Lunch Co-Chair said: "We were privileged to hear from a political journalist at the very top of his game. Andrew’s insights captivated the audience.

"The property industry is doing fantastically well, and this event gives us the opportunity to put something back. Today we raised a tremendous amount of money for a very worthwhile cause."

The lunch also played host to the prestigious Norwood Property Lunch Awards. Private Equity Firm of the Year was awarded to Ares, Residential Deal of the Year was awarded to Northacre, Hatton Real Estate won Up and Coming Agents of the Year and Co Working Provider of the Year was awarded to The Office Group.

Nick Ivil, who has a learning disability, delivered the appeal speech. Five years ago, Nick started cycling on a tandem bike with the support of Norwood’s sports service. With their encouragement, last year Nick completed one of the charity’s toughest challenges, a 500km ride from Nicaragua to Costa Rica. Nick told the audience that Norwood helped him to make his dreams come true.

Andrew Neil said: "It was wonderful to be in a room full of people absolutely committed to raising funds for a charity so close to the industry’s heart. Nick Ivil’s appeal speech was inspiring. Refusing to be defined by his disability Nick reached his goals and will no doubt continue to achieve great things."

The event was supported by Lead Sponsors Derwent London, Galliard Homes and Savills, Guest Speaker Sponsor JLL, Menu Sponsor EasyProperty and long-term Media Partner Property Week.
