Winning in Windsor, another medal haul for our athletes31 July 2014Press Release Twenty two Berkshire athletes returned victorious from the Special Olympics regional event in Windsor last week, after collecting an impressive array of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. The athletes competed at Thames Valley Athletics Centre in Eton on Sunday 20th July, cheered on by a crowd of spectators on one of the sunniest days of the year. Regional events like this are an important part of the qualifying process for the national event. The squad are coached by Norwood’s Sport and Leisure Department and train every Tuesday at Bracknell Sports Centre. In total the team took home 19 medals, including five Golds in events including the shot-put, the long jump and the 800m. Julian Primhak, who won silver in the 100 metres said: "I was very happy to be holding the medal. I’ve been running for a long time – over twenty years now, and winning always makes me feel fantastic." Encouraging new runners to take up the sport, he said: "if you are thinking about running, just go for it!"
