Norwood’s toy collection is a sweeping success

9 December 2013

It’s every child’s dream – to be let loose in a huge toy store and told to help yourself. For more than 50 children who use Norwood’s services, it was a dream come true on Sunday as they took part in the Charity’s thirteenth annual Toy Sweep at Toys R’ Us in Brent Cross.

During the past year, the Toy Sweep Committee raised over £4,000 and using this money, the youngsters, their parents and Norwood staff gathered dozens of games, DVDs, art materials, books and toys which will be distributed amongst Norwood’s children and family services, including the Unity recreational club, the Buckets and Spades short break service and its three Family Centres.

As well as helping the staff push the trolleys and find the gifts for the centres, the children were entertained by a balloon maker and were given a £12 voucher to spend in store.

Miriam Tasgal whose son attends Buckets and Spades said: "Norwood has really put the fun into playing. We love Buckets and Spades and today is brilliant – thank you Norwood!"

Debra Kleinman, Chair of the Toy Sweep Committee said: "It always gives the committee great pleasure to organise this event and see how thrilled the children are to receive their gifts. Supporting Norwood’s services by providing much needed toys and equipment, allows us to make a real difference."
