Royal Parks runners raise £11,000 for Norwood 8 October 2013 Press Release Amongst the 16,000 runners taking in the spectacular views of Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Marble Arch and the Royal Albert Hall, fourteen of Norwood’s finest stood out from the crowd. They were at the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon last Sunday, raising a sensational £11,000 for Norwood and its life changing work. One of the participants who ran the 13.1 mile route through Kensington Gardens, Green Park, Hyde Park and St James’s Park was Rob Gershon, 38, from Finchley, covered the route in 2 hours and 8 minutes and raised over £1,500 in sponsorship money for the Charity. He said: "The Royal Parks Half Marathon was magnificent – it was a glorious autumn day, with great weather and the crowd really carried us as we made our way around the course. I'm delighted to have run for Norwood which is such a deserving cause and one close to my heart – I'm already planning my training for next year's race!" Also running this year was Nicky Stewart, 49, from Mill Hill, who will also be running for Norwood in the London Marathon. Nicky completed the route in 2 hours and 16 minutes and raised £1,500 for Norwood. She said: "It was an amazing day and it felt great to be part of such a huge event. The support from the crowd was fantastic and really spurred me on and the fact that I was able to raise funds for Norwood made it all the more special and the hours of training worthwhile. Sinead Grimes, Norwood’s Events and Challenges Fundraiser, said: "The atmosphere on Sunday was fantastic, particularly for me as I participated too! I’d like to congratulate and thank my fellow runners on behalf of the people that we support. The Royal Parks Half Marathon is one of the most beautiful city runs in the world.
