Ladies Lunch raises £17,000 in aid of Norwood

Our priority was that everyone was safe, so we made sure we got everyone out of the way. These were professional criminals; police are still looking, but they’ll catch them eventually.

A hundred ladies braved the blustery weather yesterday to raise £17,000 in aid of Norwood. Guests were given an insight into Brent Cross, the North West London shopping centre, in an interview with Tom Nathan, its General Manager and Ronit Knoble, owner of Fantastic Films. The event was hosted by The Haven Bar & Bistro in Whetstone.

Tom Nathan explained his plans for the regeneration of the shopping precinct: "Brent Cross will double in size. We would like it to include new shops, a leisure centre and cinema, an outdoor eatery and a new food market; it’s our aspiration to be the next Borough Market of North London. In a few years from now, I can guarantee that Brent Cross will be the number one shopping centre in Europe."

He spoke on the ‘smash and grab’ robbery of Brent Cross jewellery store Fraser Hart, last November: "Our priority was that everyone was safe, so we made sure we got everyone out of the way. These were professional criminals; police are still looking, but they’ll catch them eventually."

Ronit asked Tom for the most difficult moment of his career and he joked, "Signing up the Arsenal shop; as a Spurs fan it was a nightmare!"

The fundraiser was organised by the Charity’s Food & Thought Committee who this year asked guests to generously ‘Sponsor a Gift’ for the hundreds of children that use Norwood services.

The event also featured a raffle, with prizes including a two-night stay for two people at Ragdale Hall in Leicestershire, a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and a Family Portrait Studio Session.

Dalia Cramer, Chair of the Ladies Lunch Committee said: "I’d like to thank Tom and Ronit for taking time out of their busy schedules to be with us yesterday. They were a brilliant double act, and we are extremely grateful for their support. I’d also like to thank everyone at the Haven for hosting the event, to everyone who donated raffle prizes, and to our guests for helping to make the event an incredible success. We had a wonderful day in a beautiful venue!"
