Norwood Pesach Appeal 2013

13 March 2013

Norwood supports hundreds of children like Aaron, helping them cope with the overwhelming struggles they face on a daily basis. We need the community’s continued generosity to ensure we never have to turn anybody away.

Norwood is calling on everyone to dig deep this Pesach, to help support some of the most vulnerable children, families and adults in the Jewish community. The charity needs to find £10million in voluntary income each and every year and is aiming to raise over £100,000 through its annual Pesach holiday appeal.

This year’s direct marketing campaign, asks: "Why is Norwood different from all other charities?"

It draws on the story of Aaron, a seven year old boy with learning difficulties, who was separated from his mother at the age of five. Aaron suffered with overwhelming feelings of abandonment, finding it difficult to communicate with his family and other children. He also struggled to keep up at school, and became increasingly disruptive in class.

Aaron’s teacher recognised that he needed help and put Aaron’s grandmother, his legal guardian, in touch with Binoh, Norwood’s special education service. He was then assessed by Norwood therapists who were able to develop a specially tailored programme to support his needs. He now receives a personalised programme of support from Norwood’s Binoh unit in a small group setting.

Norwood’s educational psychologists, speech and language therapist and a Norwood volunteer have also supported him to develop and express his feelings so that he has been able to readjust to his new life.

For so many children and young people like Aaron, Norwood is their only life-line. We encourage them to ask questions and find answers through a wide range of education support services, whilst providing them with the emotional and practical support they need.

Elaine Kerr, Norwood Chief Executive, said: "Norwood supports hundreds of children like Aaron, helping them cope with the overwhelming struggles they face on a daily basis.

We need the community’s continued generosity to ensure we never have to turn anybody away. Through our crucial services, we support thousands of children, families in need and people with learning disabilities, to help them live the life they choose, irrespective of ability or circumstance.

Your donation this Pesach will help us support other children like Aaron to achieve their potential and live a better life. Please give as generously as you can."
