Royal Parks runners raise £15,000 for Norwood

10 October 2012

People who sponsored me were so pleased to know that their money was going to such a fantastic charity.

Twenty Norwood runners took part in the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon yesterday, raising £15,000 for the Charity and its life-changing work. The group joined 12,500 other participants in the sunshine for the 13.1 mile route through Kensington Gardens, Green Park, the Houses of Parliament and the London Eye.

Andrew Samuels, 43, from Barnet, raised £1,000 in sponsorship money for the Charity, and after completing the run in just over 2 hours, has now set his sights on running the Virgin London Marathon in April: "I took part as it was a perfect excuse to raise some money for an excellent cause and shed a few pounds along the way! It was definitely quite tough but I would most certainly do it again and am planning to take part in the Virgin London Marathon next year."

Stephanie Gaynor, 25, from Kings Cross, completed the route in 2 hours and 10 minutes and raised £744 for the Charity.

She said: "I got involved because I wanted to do something really challenging. I needed to really discipline myself during training; it took some serious will power to get up early on a Sunday to go for long runs! People who sponsored me were so pleased to know that their money was going to such a fantastic charity."

Sinead Grimes, Norwood’s Events and Challenges Fundraiser, said: "The atmosphere yesterday was fantastic and we certainly lucked out with the glorious weather! I’d like to congratulate and thank our runners for taking part on behalf of all the people with learning disabilities, and children and families in need, who rely on vital help from Norwood. The Royal Park Half Marathon is a great event and an excellent opportunity to really make a difference."
