Charity Tax Relief Statement

31 May 2012

Today, following negative public opinion, plans to impose a cap on charitable donations have been dropped by Chancellor George Osbourne.

Norwood’s Chief Executive, Elaine Kerr responded to the news:

"Norwood is delighted that the Chancellor has announced cancellation of the proposed ‘charity tax’. This means that the proposed cap on charitable giving will not be implemented and that donations to Norwood of any amount will continue to qualify for Gift Aid.

Norwood has lobbied extensively for this decision, highlighting the potential damage to the funding we need to maintain our life-changing services. Given the cuts in government spending on services which are already biting, this would have been an additional blow at a difficult time and we applaud the decision to withdraw the proposal."
