Norwood’s Young People’s Focus Group (YPFG)
Norwood’s Young People’s Focus Group was set up in 2005, and has since been granted funding from the Big Lottery to continue the project. This group will ensure that children and young people using Norwood’s disability services will have their voices heard, regardless of their disability. Their contribution will have an impact on the strategic direction of the organisation for the benefit of its users.
The Young People’s Focus Group is made up of young people under the age of 17 from Unity (East and North West), Buckets and Spades and the Annie Lawson School. The young people meet every two months, putting forward their views, ideas and suggestions to relevant Service Managers and Directorate.
The next young people’s focus group meeting will be on Sunday 6 July, 11am-1pm at the Kennedy Leigh Centre in Hendon. |
Projects undertaken by the group so far include:
- YPFG webpage is up and running, including input from young people.
- Young people completed questionnaires on recruitment with results showing that they would like to be more involved in the recruitment process.
- Young people from YPFG met with Norwood Directorate to share the views of young people on healthy living and recruitment.
- ‘Healthy Living’ project has been carried out in which young people throughout the services completed questionnaires about staying healthy.
- A questionnaire looking at recreational activities within their specific services
- Production of a twice-yearly newsletter
- Organising events for young service users
- A questionnaire looking at starting a new recreational group for those in transition.
