Norwood launches innovative Pesach appeal

Norwood this week launched its 2008 Pesach appeal, with the aim of raising £100,000 for the UK’s leading Jewish charity for children and families. The appeal’s theme is the Passover miracle of the Splitting of the Red Sea, and makes the point that Norwood’s work within the community provides “miracles” every day to the many thousands of people who rely on the charity for support each year. Norwood’s postal appeals have become associated with innovative design, and this year’s leaflet has a marine theme, with an image of a parted sea and information on how donations may be spent drawn out in the sand.

The appeal tells the story of Emily, an eight-year-old who was tragically abused and neglected by her parents. When this was reported, Norwood provided her with support and counselling, and found her a long-term foster placement with a caring Jewish family. Another service user featured is Daryll, a fifteen-year-old with learning and physical disabilities. Norwood provides respite care for him at Buckets and Spades Lodge, and has supported him throughout his life so that he can now move on to college away from home.

Norma Brier, Norwood Chief Executive, said: “As we prepare to celebrate Passover, the Festival of Freedom, please take some time to think about the many children, adults and families in our community living with learning disabilities or coping with social difficulties. Norwood's vital services make a real difference to the most vulnerable members of our community, whose lives are affected by circumstances beyond their control, be it disability, abuse, or marital breakdown. Your support is vital to ensure that we never have to say no to those who turn to us for help, so please give generously.
