A new Jewish radio station Jcom, will be hitting the airwaves for a one-month period from 28 October to 24 November 2007 and Norwood, the UK’s leading Jewish charity for children and families, has been chosen as its partner charity.

Jcom Radio will broadcast to North West London on 101.4FM and via the internet at www.jcomradio.net, and hopes in future to acquire a license to broadcast full-time. It will offer a mix of music, religious and general community programming, and will include daily interviews with Norwood representatives at 14.30, highlighting the vast range of services that the charity provides as the safety net of the Jewish Community.

There will also be a live daily link-up to participants in Norwood’s Vietnam/Cambodia sponsored bike ride, taking place during two weeks in November. Throughout the month of broadcasting, Jcom will be informing its listeners about how they can directly support Norwood’s vital work by volunteering, attending events or making a donation.

Jcom Radio is operated by Jewish Communications Limited, a not-for-profit company that is striving to become London’s first full-time permanent Jewish radio station servicing the Jewish Community. The initial OFCOM-approved Restricted Service Licence (RSL) is the first step on the road to achieving this objective.

Norma Brier, Norwood’s Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to be involved with this new community initiative and look forward to giving Jcom's listeners a broader insight into the vital work that Norwood carries out in supporting thousands of children and families within the Jewish community each year. We wish Jcom every success and look forward to them receiving a permanent licence”.

Mike Peters of Jcom said: " We are delighted to be associated with an organisation as well known and respected as Norwood and we look forward to a mutually beneficial partnership. We will be able to introduce live reports from the Norwood Bike Rides in Cambodia and Vietnam into our programming during November, enabling the families to stay in touch with the riders even though they are separated by many thousands of miles. We look forward to working with Norwood in the future as we attempt to persuade OFCOM to award us a full-time community broadcasting licence."
