Children, young people and young adults who use Norwood’s disability services marked Tu B’Shvat by raising money to help replace trees lost in the Mount Carmel forest fire. Members of Buckets & Spades, Unity and In-Betweeners made a wide variety of beautiful paper flowers as a way of celebrating the Jewish New Year of the Trees.
The flowers were sold for £1 each at Norwood’s head office in Stanmore and its family centres in Hendon, Hackney and Redbridge. The proceeds will be split between purchasing trees for Israel and plants for Norwood’s family centres and residential homes. The sales have so far generated approximately £200.
Shoshana Bloom, Norwood’s Jewish Cultural Manager, said: “Jewish life is at the core of what we do and it is so inspiring to see how the children and young people supported by Norwood have worked together and given Norwood’s office staff the chance to make a difference to the environment this Tu B’shvat.”
