Ravenswood celebrates Yom Ha’atzmaut

Yom Ha'atzmaut

Yom Ha'atzmautA group of Israeli teenagers joined residents at Ravenswood for an afternoon of dancing and singing in celebration of Yom Ha’atzmaut – Israel’s 63rd birthday and national day of independence. Around 60 young people visited Norwood’s residential community for adults with learning disabilities in Berkshire last Thursday as part of UJIA’s Magic Moments programme.

The youngsters, who led the celebrations, also helped to paint a mural and made a special stop at the Pamela Barnett Centre for people with profound and multiple disabilities. Special blue and white cupcakes were baked especially for the day by Norwood staff and the main precinct area was decorated with flags and bunting.

Shoshana Bloom, Norwood’s Jewish Cultural Manager, said: “This was a fantastic day full of singing and dancing in celebration of Yom Ha’atzmaut. The teenagers really left their mark on Ravenswood and the residents have not stopped talking about how much they enjoyed the day. We look forward to Magic Moments visiting again next year!”

Yom Ha’atzmaut commemorates the declaration of the state of Israel in May 1948.
