Norwood celebrates Purim in style

22 March 2011

Norwood hosted a Purim extravaganza last night for more than 100 adults who use the Charity’s services. The glitzy bash was kindly hosted by the recently-opened Jewish Community Secondary School (JCoSS) in East Barnet.

The guests, most of whom live in Norwood residential or supported living accommodation in north-west and north-east London, enjoyed a delicious meal and took part in a fun, interactive Megillah performance, before taking to the dance floor to show off their moves. As it is traditional to dress up at Purim, guests arrived in a variety of colourful and imaginative costumes.

Shoshana Bloom, Norwood’s Jewish Cultural Manager, said: “Jewish culture is at the centre of everything we do here at Norwood and we are always exploring ways in which to make it even more vibrant, fun and meaningful for the people we support.

“I would like to thank JCoSS for hosting this fantastic evening, our caterers Caterplus Services for providing such an amazing three course meal, and all the volunteers who helped make it such a special Purim for all our guests.”

The JCoSS party was one of many celebrations to take place across Norwood’s services for children and adults. On Sunday, more than 40 members of Norwood’s Links recreational club for adults with learning disabilities were treated to a voluntary performance by the Chelsea Ballet Company. A Purim party was also held at Ravenswood, Norwood’s residential community in Berkshire.
