Fundraiser extraordinaire Flora Frank notched up yet another milestone earlier this month by completing her 22nd marathon in aid of Norwood. Wintry conditions in the UK meant the power-walking great-grandmother had little opportunity to train for the gruelling Tiberias Marathon in Israel on 6 January. But she still managed to cross the line in just over six hours and is on course to raise £18,000 for the charity this year.
Flora, 67, from Edgware, north London, has now completed 22 marathons on behalf of Norwood, which supports people with learning disabilities and children and families in need. She is also set to take part in the London Marathon in April.
"As always, it is in indescribable and unbelievable experience walking around and taking in the magnificent view of Lake Kinneret,” she said. “The water looks like a very light blue soft silky blanket! I am always thankful to G-d when I complete it, especially when I know the money I raise is going to such an incredible charity.”
Norwood is a cause close to Flora’s heart. Her brother Nissim Moses lives at Ravenswood, the Charity’s residential community for adults with learning disabilities in Berkshire.
Ian Tate, Norwood’s Head of Challenges, said: “We are eternally grateful to Flora for her commitment to Norwood and the thousands of people who rely on our support each year. Her seemingly endless energy and what she has achieved on our behalf is an inspiration to us all.”
2011 marks the 20th year of Norwood’s fundraising Challenges and the charity has organised a special programme of sporting events for all ages and abilities. For more information, visit www.norwood.org.uk/challenges
