The Princess Royal is due to visit Ravenswood village in Crowthorne, Berkshire, on 24 February for a tour of its stables. It is the second time the Princess has been welcomed to the residential community for people with physical and learning disabilities, following an earlier visit in May, 1972.

The stables, which cater for both Ravenswood residents and riders from the wider community, are an affiliated member group of the Riding for the Disabled Association. Princess Anne, whose mother HM The Queen is Patron of Norwood, is President of the RDA and will attend a special exhibition of Carriage Driving and Special Olympics Dressage.

The Princess will also meet with stable staff, volunteers and riders and be invited to present special RDA awards and rosettes. She will then be introduced to representatives from other sporting groups at Ravenswood, including its Special Olympics and ten-pin bowling teams and bike riders who participate in Norwood’s international fundraising Challenges.

Norma Brier, Chief Executive of Norwood, said: “Many of our residents at Ravenswood have very fond memories of Princess Anne’s first visit in 1972 and will be sure to give her a very warm welcome on 24 February.

“Norwood is very proud of its royal patronage, which dates back to 1815, and we are honoured that we will once again have this opportunity to demonstrate our life-changing work to such an esteemed guest.

“Through our association with the RDA, and the work of our dedicated stable staff and volunteers, Norwood is able to provide a wide range of opportunities for therapy and enjoyment to large numbers of people with physical and learning disabilities.

“Our riders are extremely excited and have been working hard to ensure that they put on a wonderful show for our royal visitor.”
