Binoh offers training opportunities to Charedi teachers

7 February 2011

Norwood is demonstrating its commitment to the Charedi community by continuing to offer training to Rebbes and teachers within the community’s boys schools. The training is delivered by experts from Binoh, Norwood’s specialist education and therapy service, at the Charity’s Somers Family Centre in Hackney.

Around 20 Rebbes and teachers, including some from Manchester and Gateshead, attended sessions in December and January. The positive feedback has shown that some ideas to support the development of pupils are already being implemented.

“I have learnt about the importance of early intervention,” said one participant. “If you are aware of how a child should be developing in their infancy years, you are able to see where they are having difficulties. You can then apply your knowledge in the classroom and hopefully prevent little problems turning into big ones!

“As a teacher or learning support assistant, if you are aware of the norms - when and how children should be developing - you will be able to support the children, as you will recognise when something may or may not be a major issue.”

The sessions were presented by Avromi Freilich, a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, and focused on supporting staff to develop a deeper understand through the themes of The Thinking Child and The Social Child: Developing Friendships in the Early Years.
The next session, Focus on Supporting and Encouraging Positive Behaviour in the Settings, will take place is being held at the beginning of March and will be led by Dovid Roth, a Binoh Educational Psychologist.

The training sessions are funded jointly by Norwood and The Learning Trust and focus on support for younger pupils.
