Lady Jakobovits at the Norwood Annual Dinner 2009
Norwood wishes to express its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Lady Jakobovits, who died on Friday aged 81. Lady Jakobovits, whose late husband, the former Chief Rabbi Lord Jakobovits, was a Vice President of Norwood, was a passionate supporter of the Charity’s work throughout her life. She was a committed advocate for children with special needs and her daughters Esther and Shoshana were among the founding trustees of Binoh, which later merged with Norwood.
Norma Brier, Norwood’s Chief Executive, said: “On behalf of Norwood, I would like to express my deep sadness following the death of Lady Jakobovits on Friday. She was a remarkable woman – a friend, mentor and inspiration to innumerable individuals, families and organisations within the Jewish community.
“Through their deep commitment to supporting children with special needs, Lady Jakobovits and her family were instrumental in the foundation of Binoh. This commitment continued long after Binoh’s merger with Norwood and extended to all aspects of the Charity’s work. Lady Jakobovits was also particularly appreciative of the services which Norwood provides directly to the Charedi community in Hackney. She would personally take an interest in the well-being of countless families in need, and regularly contacted us if she knew of anybody in the community who needed our support.
“Her love for others was universal and, like so many others who received her compassionate, energetic and unstinting support throughout her life, Norwood will feel her loss for many years to come.”
