Neville Kahn appointed as new Norwood Trustee

Neville Kahn

A leading professional who helped set up a key Norwood fundraising committee has been appointed as the newest member of its Board of Trustees. Neville Kahn is a well-known and respected member of the Jewish community and is also a leading figure in the world of business and finance.

His appointment comes as Norwood launches its bold new three-year Change a life strategy, which puts the needs and wishes of the children, adults and families it supports at the heart of everything it does. Under its plans for 2010-13 and beyond, Norwood will: enhance its Life Long Learning services; place a greater emphasis on its Supported Living services; and expand its Children & Family services, particularly in those areas with a rapidly growing Jewish population.

Norma Brier, Norwood’s Chief Executive, said: “This is a very exciting time for Norwood, as we launch our new Change a life strategy, and Neville is a very strong addition to the Board of Trustees which will help us steer the charity on the right course over the next few years. In recent years, he has demonstrated his commitment to our life-changing work with people with learning disabilities, and children and families in need, and we are delighted to announce his appointment.”

Neville has been involved with Norwood as a supporter for a number of years, and has appeared as a guest speaker at its fundraising events. In 2005, he co-founded with Adam Plainer, of Jones Day, the Norwood Distressed Investors Dinner Committee and is currently its Co-Chair. Since then, the committee has raised an incredible £620,000 for the Charity.

He is also active in several other community organisations. Neville has been the Treasurer, Governor and Trustee of Kerem Schools Ltd since 1999, is a Trustee of the Jewish Association of Business Ethics, and sits on the executive of Hazon Yeshaya, the Israeli humanitarian aid charity. Meanwhile, he is both a Freeman and Liveryman of the City of London.

Neville is a Partner with Deloitte Reorganisation Services, where he specialises in corporate restructuring and insolvency. He has acted as lead insolvency practitioner on a number of complex administrations and receiverships, including the recent closure of Woolworths Plc, Waterford Wedgwood and Jarvis. He sits on the Policy Committee of the Association of Business Recovery Professionals and also has experience in strategic and financial business reviews.

An enthusiastic Arsenal FC supporter and keen golfer, Neville is married and has three children.

Following his appointment, he said: “Norwood is an incredible organisation and provides a vital service within both the Jewish and wider community. As its new Change a life strategy shows, it will continue to fulfil this role for many years to come. I am very proud to be appointed as a Norwood Trustee and to play my part in helping so many thousands of people to change their lives and fulfil their true potential.”
