Norwood celebrated Chanukah in style as JCoSS opened its doors for a party for more than 200 people who use the Charity’s services.
The celebration, which took place at the recently opened school in Castlewood Road in New Barnet on Monday, was attended by adults who use Norwood’s residential care and supported living services in London and members of both Links the recreational group for adults with learning disabilities and Inbetweeners, a group for young people with disabilities.
Guests were welcomed into JCoSS’s main atrium by pupils serving canapés and drinks. They were then invited to join in a Menorah lighting ceremony before being taken through to specially-decorated tables for a three-course meal. Following the meal, which was served by Norwood staff, people took to the dance floor for a disco.
Shoshana Bloom, Norwood’s Jewish Cultural Manager, said: “We are so grateful to the staff and students of JCoSS for providing such a fantastic Chanukah celebration for the people we support. The message of Chanukah is about the importance of the freedom to celebrate our Jewish culture and identity. Norwood encourages people with learning disabilities to express their Jewishness and is thrilled that JCoSS staff and students joined in the spirit of the occasion.”
