Toy Story 3 screening raises £6,500 for Norwood

12 July 2010

Norwood took 300 cinemagoers to infinity and beyond yesterday, during a special 3D screening of Toy Story 3 which raised £6,500 for the Charity. Buzz and Woody fans, both young and old, flocked to the VUE Cinema in North Finchley for the fundraising event, which was organised by Norwood’s Enterprise Committee. All proceeds from the screening, which was held in partnership with Walt Disney Pictures, will go towards the Charity’s life-changing work with people with learning disabilities, and children and families in need.

Dozens of young fans came dressed up as their favourite character, and three lucky winners were presented with a Toy Story watch during a special fancy dress competition. Meanwhile, goodie bags filled with donated Toy Story treats were also sold to generate further funds. But before guests settled down for the feature presentation, they heard from nine-year-old Leah Redmond, a member of Norwood’s Unity recreational service and Young People’s Focus Group, who described how becoming involved with the Charity had changed her life.

Event Organiser, Gemma Wolfson, said: “The event was a fantastic success, and it was wonderful to see so many children and adults getting into the spirit of things by coming in costume. I would like to thank everyone, especially the Enterprise Committee, who helped us to organise the screening, which has raised vital funds for Norwood’s work with people with learning disabilities, and children and families in need.”

Norwood would also like to thank the following sponsors: Melissa Conway Optometrist; RealD; Swizzels Matlow; Vivid Imaginations; Mattel; Smyths Toys; Zeon Watches; Waitrose; Spearmark; and our media partners, The Jewish Chronicle.
