Norwood serves up a treat with launch of Come Dine at Mine

20 April 2010

Norwood is cooking up a storm with Come Dine at Mine, a new fundraising initiative which allows people to raise money for the Charity from the comfort of their own dining rooms. The scheme is being generously sponsored by Jason Millan, one of London's leading Kosher caterers, and was launched at a special dinner party at his Elstree home last week.

The aim of Come Dine at Mine is to encourage people to host dinner parties for friends and family in aid of the Charity. In return, participants will be provided with fundraising materials, including mouth-watering recipes, top dinner party tips and money-off vouchers to be used at selected food stores.

Nicole Margolis, Norwood Events Fundraiser, said: "If you rate yourself as the next Nigella or Jamie, and think your friends would pay good money for your meal, why not help Norwood to raise vital funds? Come Dine at Mine is a fun way for people to organise their own fundraising events to support our work providing life-changing services for people with learning disabilities and children and families in need."

At the launch event, Jason kicked off Come Dine at Mine in style by welcoming guests with cocktails before serving a starter of London Cured Smoked Salmon with Asian Infused Seared Yellow Fin Loin of Tuna, a main course of Trio of Peppered Beef, and Strawberries and Cream served with Homemade Shortbread Biscuits for dessert.

"I am delighted to sponsor Come Dine and Mine and support such a wonderful cause," he said. "I hope participants will find my recipes and tips useful and have a great time organising and hosting their dinner parties."

People can register for Come Dine at Mine at www.norwood.org/dine. They will then receive a fundraising pack in the post. This will include recipes, place and score cards, and vouchers for some well-known Kosher food stores, including Ivor Silverman, Ko-foods, Kellmans and Kosher Kingdom. Meanwhile, participants will have access to a special webpage which contains further recipes and top dinner party tips compiled by Jason Millan, plus invitation and menu templates.

The Come Dine at Mine webpage also has a link to a Facebook page where people can upload photos from their dinner party, comment on the evening and be kept up to date with new monthly recipes from Jason.

How to raise money through Come Dine at Mine:

Here are just a few fundraising ideas to help people raise as much money from their dinner party as possible:

  • Set a price per head
Let guests know that the dinner party is being held in aid of Norwood and suggest a set price per person.
  • Secret payments
Ask guests to donate what they thought the meal would have cost in a restaurant.
  • No flowers or chocolates
Instead of guests bringing flowers or chocolates, simply ask them to give a donation to Norwood.
  • Link suggested donation amounts to your score
Ask guests to score your evening out of 10 using the score cards provided. Then link the score to an for guests to donate e.g. 1 out of 10 = £5 donation, 5 out of 10 = £15 donation and 10 out of 10 = £50 donation!

However, these are just a few suggestions and participants should feel free to come up with their own fundraising ideas.
