Norwood’s second M&A Network reception, a fundraising event for professionals working in mergers and acquisitions, private equity and corporate finance, raised an incredible £11,000 for the Charity. Around 75 industry professionals attended the drinks and canapés reception, sponsored by SGPB Hambros, at impressive West End venue Asia House last night. The guest speaker for the evening was James Harding, editor of The Times newspaper.
The Norwood M&A Network has since established itself as a key event for professionals, providing unique opportunities to network with others in the industry, while raising money for Norwood and its life-changing services.
Guests were welcomed by Dan Adler, who explained how Norwood’s crucial work helps thousands of people to change their lives. He then introduced Norwood’s Employment Service appeal video, which showed how Norwood helps dozens of people to learn new skills, become more independent and fulfil their potential. Following the appeal James Harding, a vastly experienced journalist who in 2007 became the respected national newspaper’s youngest ever Editor, was invited to the stage.
James gave a humorous yet highly interesting précis on the recent party political conferences and David Cameron’s ‘Big Society’. “People here tonight are part of the society, committed to using their power for good causes, which is why you are here tonight supporting Norwood,” he said.
At the end of his talk the floor was opened to questions and guests quizzed James on the introduction of ‘pay-per-view’ charges on the Times website and those of other News International titles. Asked if he thought that other newspapers would follow in their footsteps, he said he felt they would, for two reasons. “Firstly, journalists like their work being read, but don’t want to give their content away for free and secondly, reporting costs money and this would be a way to recoup it,” he said.
Sara Parish, Events Fundraising Manager for Norwood said:” I am thrilled with the success of our second M&A Network reception. It was good to see so many attendees, old and new, and I am delighted with the money that was raised on the night which will go towards helping people with learning disabilities and children and families in need. I would like to thank our sponsor SGPB Hambros and the M&A Advisory group who helped make this night possible.”
