Around 90 golfers clubbed together yesterday to help raise £42,000 for Norwood at its annual Golf Day.
Held at Dyrham Park Country Club in Barnet, the event generated vital funds to support Norwood’s life-changing work with people with learning disabilities, and children and families in need.
In the morning, corporate teams, including a large number from the construction and property industries, made their way out on the luscious fairways and manicured greens for a round of golf. Some of the teams were joined on the putting green by Ben Silver and James Fine, who both live in Norwood residential accommodation and use a range of services.
Once they had completed their round, the golfers returned to the club-house for a glass of Pimm’s on the terrace and a buffet lunch. Before the meal, guests were welcomed by David Galman, Chairman of the Norwood Golf Committee, and were shown a short film outlining what Norwood tries to achieve through services like its Young People’s Focus Group and Supported Employment programme, and what its main focus will be over the next three years. After lunch, awards were presented to the winning corporate team and two runners up, the golfers who achieved the longest drive and most accurate tee shot.
More than 20 companies were present at the Golf Day, and firms who organised teams included City and Docklands, Frogmore, Galliard Homes, J S Wright, New Concept Interiors, UK Screeders and Windsor Signs & Graphics. The event was generously sponsored by C J O’Shea Group Ltd and associate sponsor Howard Kennedy.
One of the guests David Scharfer, from Grant Stanley, said: “Norwood does wonderful work and deserves to be supported.” Another guest, Simon Leigh from City and Docklands, commented on the day by saying: “It was a fantastic day. It was well organised, the facilities were great, and it was for a good cause. Shame about my golf!”
Following the event, David Galman said: “I’d like to thank everyone who helped to make this Golf Day such a great success, including our sponsors C J O’Shea and Howard Kennedy. The money raised will help Norwood continue its work helping thousands of people with learning disabilities, and children and families in need, to improve the quality of their lives, and achieve their goals, each and every year.”
