The fourth and final tournament of Backgammon Series 4, sponsored by the Pears Foundation, has raised more than £4,000 for Norwood. Some 26 players pitted their wits against the roll of the dice at the event, which was held on Monday at Home House, a private members club in the West End.
The tournament was the last of four qualifiers organised ahead of a Grand Final on 15 March. The final match of the tournament was won by Lillian Lousky, who received £1,000, while Michael Flesch finished second and walked home with £300. Third place went to Richard Bernstone, while Romolo Mudu won the consolation tournament.
As in previous tournaments, Lillian and the three runners-up also received trophies and free entry into the Grand Final. But there are still places available in the Grand Final for anybody who wants to pit their wits against some of the biggest names on the backgammon circuit who have already qualified.
Event organiser Gemma Wolfson said: “The series so far is proving to be a great success and competition was fierce on Monday. As we approach the Grand Final on March 15, why not challenge yourself against some of the best players in the country and be in with a chance of winning a fantastic prize? If nothing else, your support will help Norwood to continue its work providing first-class personalised services to thousands of people with learning disabilities each year - helping them, one by one, to change their lives and fulfil their potential.”
Last year, Norwood’s Backgammon Series 3 raised more than £50,000, we hope that Series 4 will improve on that.
