Chancellor Joins Norwood’s Digital Revolution

3 December 2010

The entire community is invited to spend an evening with George Osborne as Norwood goes digital again for its next fundraising event. The Chancellor will be interviewed by Times columnist Daniel Finkelstein OBE during an exclusive Norwood YN Current Affairs Reception on Thursday, 9 December, 2010. Tickets are sold out, but anyone with access to the internet will be able to get involved as part of the charity’s latest digital innovation.

In the run up to the event, people are being encouraged to send in questions for the Chancellor on Facebook and Twitter. The best contributions will asked of him on the night. During the event, people can also post comments on a live blog which will be updated with questions, answers, photos, tweets and video clips. An appeal film will also be available to view online and digital guests will be given the opportunity to make a donation.

The new digital element to Norwood’s fundraising events was launched at its Annual Dinner last month. For the first time, the Digital Dinner allowed supporters the world over to follow the event online. Norwood communicated with more than 100,000 people on the night. Short video clips featuring celebrity guests Simon Cowell, Vanessa Feltz, Kate Garraway and Theo Paphitis have since been viewed by more than 5,000 YouTube visitors.

Norma Brier, Chief Executive of Norwood, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Chancellor George Osborne to join us at this exciting event. I’m equally excited to extend another invitation to our guests and the thousands of Norwood digital followers around the world.

“Norwood is at the heart of our community and, following the success of our Digital Dinner, we want everyone to get involved in our high-profile events.

“We are currently facing significant financial challenges in the wake of the Government’s spending review and need the community now more than ever to help us maintain our vital services for vulnerable children, adults and families.”
