It was an Italian job well done for a team of 46 young cyclists who raised £45,000 for Norwood during a cycling tour of northern Italy. The inaugural YN Italian Challenge took the group on a four-day bike ride and trek through the hills of the picturesque Riccione province over the Bank Holiday Weekend.
The YN Italian Challenge is the first time Norwood has organised a fundraising bike ride purely for younger people aged between 18 and 33. Its aim was to create awareness of Norwood and its work and encourage the participants to become more involved in its wide range of fundraising activities. As with all Norwood cycle challenges, the riders were accompanied by several tandem teams, which included some of the adults with learning disabilities who use the Charity’s services.
Ian Tate, Norwood’s Head of Challenges, said: “The inaugural YN Italian Challenge was a fantastic success and I am thrilled that the ride has raised so much money for the people who we support. For many of the participants, this was their first Norwood Challenge. I would like to thank them all for taking part, hope they enjoyed themselves and would be delighted to see them at future events.”
In October, Norwood is organising a bike ride in Kenya which will lead participants from the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro to the Indian Ocean at Mombasa (Group 1: 7-18 October/Group 2: 14-25 October).
