Just 4 weeks left to sign up to C2C

1 June 2010

During National ‘Get Active Week’ (20–27 June), individuals, families and communities from all over the UK are being asked to put their cycling skills to the test by taking part in the Capital to Coast Cycle Challenge for Charity, on 27 June. No matter how old, young fit or unhealthy you think you are, everyone and anyone is being encouraged to get on their bike for a worthy cause.

Over 1,500 people are expected to take part in this year’s cycle ride and will have the choice of either a 60 mile route from Surrey to the Hove seafront or a circular 60 mile Hove to Hove route. Anyone wanting to do a shorter ride can choose a 30 mile route from Haywards Heath to Hove.

It is hoped that Capital to Coast will raise over £300,000 for five charities, including: Norwood; Bliss; Cystic Fibrosis Trust; the Down’s Syndrome Association; and Heart FM’s Have a Heart Appeal.

The Capital to Coast Challenge promises to be a great day out for the whole family. The ride takes a beautiful scenic route along picturesque country lanes and tackles the dreaded Devil's Dyke before the downhill stretch to the finish line. Riders are provided with plentiful free refreshments and mechanical support throughout, and on completing the challenge, can have a well-deserved massage and picnic by the sea as they are re-united with friends and family.

Taking part in this year’s cycle is 36-year-old Jeremy Rosenblatt, from London, who said: “I have done Capital to Coast twice before and raising money for Norwood is such a rewarding feeling, along with getting fitter from the ride. I am riding with my brother Simon and two close friends. We called ourselves Team Wii (un) Fit!”

Ian Tate, Head of Norwood Challenges, said: “The Capital to Coast Cycle Challenge for Charity is a great way to have a day out with your friends and family and is a fantastic way to get fit. All the money raised from the challenge will continue to provide life-changing services to people with learning disabilities and children and families in need.”
