A “Summer Sensation” fundraiser held in the beautiful gardens of the Brighton and Hove Hebrew Congregation Synagogue on Sunday 28 June raised over £700 for Sussex Tikvah and the Torah Academy Nursery.

Norwood’s Sussex Tikvah registered care home, the Rachel Mazzier House, is home to six adults with learning disabilities in Brighton and provides outreach services to people with moderate learning difficulties. Five of the Sussex Tikvah residents attended the fun day and really enjoyed the great atmosphere and sunshine. Families from all over Sussex were impressed with the activities which included a jewellery stall, lucky dip, face painting, a petting zoo and a fantastic Israeli buffet lunch.

Jon Schachter who has lived at Sussex Tikvah since 1993 said, “I had a lovely day. Thanks very much for organising it.”

Organiser and Torah Academy Governor Tessa Bass said, “I want to thank all the volunteers for putting this event together, Brighton and Hove Hebrew Congregation for letting us use their lovely gardens and the Sussex Jewish Representative Council for funding this event. Over 165 people from all across the Jewish community in Brighton, Hove and the surrounding areas had a wonderful day in a fantastic family atmosphere.”

Volunteer organiser, Lesley Walker, parent of a child who attends the Torah Academy Nursery, and Sarah Amram, Parent Governor at Torah Academy, were delighted that the day had been even better than they expected.

Adele Breslauer, Norwood’s Head of Events and Major Donors said, “We’d like to thank the volunteers for their hard work in organising a fantastic fun day to raise money for adults with learning disabilities at Sussex Tikvah.”
