Everyone’s a winner as Norwood’s annual raffle raises £30,000

21 July 2009

The Norwood annual raffle was a huge success this year, raising over £30,000 for the leading UK charity supporting children, families and adults, coping with learning disabilities and social disadvantage. The six lucky winners across the UK are currently celebrating their success.

The first prize went to a couple from Herefordshire whose son has learning disabilities. The couple were delighted when they found out they had won a luxurious one night stay for two people in a penthouse suite, including champagne dinner and massage at the Park Plaza County Hotel. The prize, which was kindly donated to Norwood by the Park Plaza, will give them a well-earned break while their son stays at Buckets & Spades Lodge, Norwood’s respite care home for children and young people with learning disabilities. The family regularly use the respite care home, where children spend time with their peers and take part in outings and activities while benefiting from 24-hour care provided by Norwood’s dedicated support staff.

The second prize, a stunning £9,000 gold diamond bracelet, which was donated by The Diamond Store, went to Enid and Herbert Low from Bournemouth. Herbert, 83, could not believe his luck as this is the first thing he and his wife have ever won in their lives.

A very happy Myra Stern won third prize, a Samsung 32” widescreen LCD TV. Meanwhile, Tamara Hyman, 24, was the perfect fit for a pair of Ugg Boots and a Daniel Handbag donated from Daniel Footwear, and the time was also right for Peter Minihan, who won a Rotary watch.

Gemma Wolfson, Norwood’s Community Fundraiser, said: “We’d like to thank all six of the sponsors who generously donated the prizes to make this year’s raffle such a great success. We’re delighted that we’ve raised over £30,000 to improve the lives of children, adults and families coping with learning disabilities and social disadvantage. Congratulations to all the winners!”
