The second tournament of Backgammon Series 4, sponsored by the Pears Foundation, has raised more than £5,000 for Norwood. The event was held on Monday, 12 October, at Home House, an exclusive private members club in Mayfair.

More than 30 players battled it out for supremacy at the qualifier which was the second of four leading up to the Grand Final in March, 2010. The final match of the tournament was won by Lawrence Powell, with Stephen Cohen finishing second. Third place went to Edward Leighton, while Wayne Felton won the consolation tournament.

Event organiser Gemma Wolfson said: “The standard of play was excellent and it was a very enjoyable evening. All the money raised will help Norwood provide vital support to thousands of people with learning disabilities and children and families in need.”

Places are still available for backgammon enthusiasts who want to take part in the remaining two qualifying tournaments, the next of which is on 23 November. The winner of each tournament takes home £1,000, while £300 goes to the runner-up. The top four winners all received trophies and will automatically qualify for the Grand Final.

Norwood has now established itself as a leading tournament on the backgammon circuit. Last year’s Series 3 raised more than £50,000 for Norwood.
