Over 400 participants from London, Essex and Hertfordshire are taking part in Norwood’s annual Junior Bike Ride and there’s still time for more riders to sign-up. The 10-mile off-road adventure for children and teenagers aged 7 – 14 and their families, will be held on Father’s Day, Sunday 21 June on private terrain in Elstree, Hertfordshire.
The annual bike ride is a great way for the whole family to get fit and to make a big difference to people’s lives. The top fundraiser will win an iPod and every rider will receive a free Junior Bike Ride t-shirt and goodie bag.
First time participant, nine year-old James Payling from Radlett will be riding with his mum Nicki.
“To raise money for such a worthy charity is a real motivator.” Says Nicki. “James understands that the funds raised will directly benefit children his age and others who have learning disabilities. We love riding our bikes together and hope to make this an annual family event!” James attends Newberries Primary School in Radlett.
Eight year-old James Bardon and his 13 year-old brother Miles from Stanmore will be taking part with their parents for the second time. Their sister Gabriella uses Buckets and Spades, Norwood’s respite care service for children with disabilities and Unity, Norwood’s recreational service for children with disabilities. Mum, Pauline said “We are doing the Junior Bike Ride because Norwood does so much for us. Our daughter Gabriella uses Buckets and Spades and Unity which are both amazing.”
James goes to Mathilda Marks-Kennedy School in Mill Hill and Miles goes to JFS in Kenton.
“It is a great family day out,” said Ian Tate, Norwood’s Head of Challenges. “The Junior Bike Ride raises vital funds for Norwood, and what better way is there to spend Father’s Day than by having an adventure bike ride with your Dad? The money raised will help support thousands of children, families and adults coping with learning disabilities or social disadvantage.”
The Junior Bike Ride was previously held in Bracknell, Berkshire. Last year, 220 cyclists raised more than £20,000 for Norwood.
