More than 80 people of all ages and abilities enjoyed the sunshine as they took part in Norwood’s annual Waterside Walk which raised over £10,000 for the leading Jewish charity in the UK supporting children, adults and families coping with learning disability or social disadvantage. The Waterside Walk was held on Sunday 10 May amidst the spectacular parkland scenery which surrounds Windsor Castle at Virginia Water in Windsor Great Park, Surrey.
Walkers from London, Essex, Hertfordshire and Surrey as well as residents of Norwood's supported living and residential homes in Berkshire, Redbridge and North West London tackled either 10 miles or the more challenging 20 mile route depending on their level of fitness.
David Kaye, who uses Norwood's supported living service said, "I walked 10 miles with my friends Michelle and Claire and now I feel happy but need a rest!"
Six year old Nathaniel Young from Southgate became the youngest person to take part in a Norwood Challenge. He said, “It was really hard but I had fun and want to do it again next year.” after walking ten miles with his family.
The Soldier Girls, a team of seven from North West London marched through the park in army gear raising over £1,600 for Norwood “We enjoyed the Challenge, said Soldier Girl Jackie Harrison from Wembley, “Great weather, stunning surroundings and knowing that the money we raised will help so many people, put a spring in our step and kept us motivated.”
“The walkers were fundraising for a fantastic cause,” said Ian Tate, Norwood’s Head of Challenges. “The money they raised will help support the needs of children, families and adults with learning disabilities or coping with social difficulties. We had a great time, the scenery was beautiful and I would like to encourage supporters to come out and participate in other Norwood Challenges – this year, we have a trek in Provence and bike rides in the UK, Rajasthan in India and Israel.”
