The Hope Charity, the London-based organisation supporting children with special educational needs, has joined Norwood’s umbrella of children and family services.
Following the merger, Harry Simmonds, Chair of Hope’s Trustee Board, will join Norwood’s Corporate Services Committee and Ian Fagelson, Hope’s Chair of Fundraising, will join Norwood’s Board of Trustees. The other members of Hope's lay leadership, Sarah Hobson, Evette Simmonds, Alex Stuart and Myra Waiman, will join various Norwood committees.
Norma Brier, Norwood Chief Executive, said: “Bringing Hope into the Norwood family will greatly enhance the existing work of both of our organisations within the field of special education and allow us to increase the range of specialist services available to children with special educational needs. The expertise provided by Hope will complement the Binoh service which already exists within Norwood, as well as our planned involvement with the Special Education Resource Unit at JCoSS.”
Harry Simmonds added: “I believe this combination will be a winner for both organisations and, more importantly, for the learning disabled youngsters that we both strive to help and who will now have access to a strengthened Hope service.
Hope will continue to function from its base in North-West London.
The Hope Centre for Cognitive Education was opened in 1996 by British parents of children with special needs who had received help from educational psychologist Professor Reuven Feuerstein’s Jerusalem-based Institute. Their aim was to create a centre of excellence in the UK to enable children with learning difficulties to reach their full potential through the Feuerstein methodology as well as to provide training courses for professionals, parents and carers in the use of Feuerstein’s techniques.
