Norwood's big hitters raise £133,000 at Golf Day
Nearly 100 golfers clubbed together for charity on Wednesday 2 July for the annual Bank of Ireland Norwood Golf Day at the Dyrham Park Golf and Country Club in Barnet. The event raised £133,000 for Norwood, a leading UK charity supporting children, adults and families living with learning disability or social disadvantage.
The corporate teams, many of which were representing the property industry, enjoyed a champagne and sandwiches reception before taking on the beautifully-sculpted course. Ex professional golfer Luke Stone was on hand to offer technical advice to the participants, as well as to some Norwood service users with learning disabilities who attended. Once everyone had completed their round, it was back to the 19th hole for a well-earned drink and some top-class entertainment provided by Nick Einhorn, three-times Magic Circle Close-Up Magician of the Year.

Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner, after which prizes were handed out for the best team, the longest drive and the most accurate tee shot. In an extremely moving speech, Erica Marks, whose disabled son is supported by Norwood, spoke about her experiences and how the charity has been there for her family every step of the way. She was followed by top comedian Ian Richards, who entertained guests with his routine before presiding over an auction and raffle, with prizes that included a signed photo of Mohammed Ali with the Beatles, which went for £1,800.
David Galman, Chairman of the Golf Committee, said: “I’d like to thank everyone who helped to make this Golf Day such a great success, including our golfers, our anchor sponsors Bank of Ireland and our corporate teams. The money raised will support some of the most vulnerable children, adults and families in our community.”
