Final Backgammon qualifier raises funds for Norwood

24 November 2008
Norwood held the fourth and final qualifying tournament of the current Backgammon Series, sponsored by the Pears Foundation, on Monday November 24 at exclusive London restaurant Sketch.

Twenty-two players battled it out for supremacy whilst raising money for the leading UK charity providing services for Jewish children and adults with social difficulties and learning disabilities.

The event raised £6,000, and was won by Edward Leighton, with Richard Bernstone finishing second. Third place went to Joe Cohen, while Mark Pollack won the consolation tournament.

“The standard of play was excellent and it was also a really enjoyable social event,” said Event Organiser Candice Mendes da Costa. “The money raised will go towards providing vital services to Jewish children, adults and families coping with learning disability and social disadvantage. The final will be held on January 26.”

For each tournament, the winner takes home £1,500, with £500 going to the runner-up and £250 to the third-place finisher. The top four winners automatically qualify for the Grand Final.
