YN Property Reception raises a record-breaking £39,000
David Pearl, Chairman and Chief Executive of the Structadene Group, and Ian Marcus, a Managing Director in the Investment Banking division of Credit Suisse, were the special guest speakers at YN's second annual Property Reception in aid of Norwood, a leading UK charity supporting children and families living with disability or coping with social difficulties. Around 200 young professionals from the property industry attended the event, which raised £39,000 – £9,000 more than last year. The evening, held at the premises of Investec Private Bank, was kindly sponsored by Derwent London.

David and Ian were interviewed by Giles Barrie, Editor of Property Week. David is one of the most acquisitive property buyers in London and has a portfolio of around 1,500 buildings currently worth around £2.5 billion. He spoke at length about his humble origins and how he made his first steps in the property industry. He said: “I had no money and the vendor gave me a 100% mortgage interest-free! The mortgage payments were £7 a week.”
Ian, who has been closely involved in several huge deals such as the financing of Wembley Stadium and the O2 Arena, spoke about the instability of the global property market and the effects on the banking industry, as illustrated by the collapse of Northern Rock. He said:” My personal view is that nationalisation is the only thing that could have happened with Northern Rock, and it should have been done from the start.”

Speaking after the event, David Pearl said: “I am absolutely delighted to support Norwood. You do absolutely fantastic work and should be applauded.” Ian Marcus added: “My wife and I are longstanding Norwood supporters. I have been on Norwood’s Israel Bike Ride and it was a fantastic experience. It has been a pleasure to support the charity this evening”
Ross Freedman, who Chairs the YN Property Committee, said: “It has been another fabulous event. I am very proud of my committee, which has worked extremely hard to ensure tonight’s success. The money raised will go towards providing vital services for children and families in our community. I am already looking forward to next year.”
