13 October 2008

Participants experienced the adventure of a lifetime, riding 400km through northern Israel from Nahariya to the mystical city of Tzefat, passing through the breathtaking rolling hills of the Golan and Galilee and finishing the ride in Haifa.

As with all of Norwood’s international bike rides, adults with learning disabilities who are supported by Norwood took part in the ride on the back of tandem bikes. Stephen Treisman, who lives at Ravenswood in Berkshire said, “I like going cycling, and I do lots of it every week. I enjoy going to other countries with all the other bike riders.”

This year’s series of challenges ends with the South Africa Bike Ride in the last week of October and the first week of November.

Ian Tate, Norwood’s Head of Challenges, said: “Norwood’s international bike rides are extremely well organised and great fun as well as being challenging. Norwood pioneered the charity bike ride concept in 1992 with a trip to Israel, and 16 years later the event is still going strong.

“Next year’s challenges include participating in the London Marathon or a Waterside Walk in Ascot. If you prefer to get on your bike you could take part in the Junior Bike Ride, Capital to Coast London to Hove Bike Ride or international bike rides in Rajasthan, India and Israel.”
