Nicholas Lockley, a 36-year-old financial journalist from Surrey, was presented with a mountain bike as a reward for being the top fundraiser for the 2006 Capital To Coast London to Hove bike ride. Heroic Nicholas managed to raise an amazing £9,000 in sponsorship money for the ride, which is organised by Norwood, the UK’s leading Jewish Children & Family Services charity. Ian Tate, Head of Challenges, Income and Database at Norwood, presented Nicholas with his prize at Norwood’s head office in Stanmore.
Nicholas, whose son Felix has Down’s Syndrome, was riding in aid of the Down’s Syndrome Association, one of Capital To Coast’s four beneficiary charities. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Southern FM’s Help a Local Child are also involved with the event. He said: “I am delighted to have raised so much and I was amazed by the generosity of my friends, family and clients. Capital to Coast is a beautiful ride and I would recommend it to anyone.”
Ian Tate said: “Raising £9,000 is a fantastic achievement and Nicholas has set a great example. I challenge everyone to sign up for this year’s ride and maybe somebody will beat that figure!”
Capital to Coast 2007, now in its 12th year, takes place on 15 July 2007. It boasts a beautifully scenic route, experienced stewards, free refreshments and mechanical support along the way. There is also a 30-mile option cycling from Hayward’s Heath to Hove. The ride is open to all ages, although under-18’s must be accompanied by an adult.
