Norwood Backgammon - Grand Final
The Grand Final of the Backgammon Tournament in aid of Norwood was hosted at "Hush" on Monday 12 June. The event was the culmination of a year long tournament, sponsored by the Pears Foundation, which raised £50,000 for Anglo-Jewry's leading Children & Family Services organisation.
In order to reach the Grand Final, 32 players won places in the eight preliminary tournaments. Those 32 players were joined by a further 32 players who have each donated £250 to the charity for the privilege of taking part in the Grand Final. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the winner of the inaugural Backgammon Tournament was crowned.
The final consisted of three separate tournaments, the principal tournament, a Consolation Tournament and a 'Last Chance Saloon Tournament' so all players got to play at least three matches.
The Backgammon Tournament is destined to become an annual event, having already been recognised as a major event on the backgammon circuit.
