Norwood pays tribute to local volunteers
Norwood hosted a reception on Wednesday evening at the King Solomon High School, Forest Road, Barkingside, to honour the contribution of its volunteers across Essex who support the organisation's local services.

"Norwood has had a presence in Essex, supporting one of the largest Jewish communities in the UK for a number of years." explained Laura Davies, Norwood's Volunteer Co-ordinator responsible for Essex. "Volunteers are a vital aspect of our work in the local community. Without their dedication and commitment so much of our work to support local disadvantaged children and their families and people of all ages with learning disabilities would not get done."
Over eighty volunteers who support Norwood's Leonard Sainer Centre (a Children & Family Centre), its five residential homes for adults with learning disabilities in the local area and its two local charity shops attended the event, where they enjoyed a catered reception, whilst being entertained by the local branch of the JLGB band.
Laura continued: "Our volunteers help in so many ways; they work in our centre's toy library; in Unity, our recreational service for children with disabilities and in LINKS, the equivalent for adults. Volunteers also work in our residential homes as befrienders and in our two charity shops. Tonight, we are proud to have had the opportunity to publicly thank our volunteers and show them just how much their efforts are appreciated. "
Addressing the volunteers, Director of Norwood Ruth Fasht said: "Norwood is proud of its position as Anglo-Jewry's leading children & family services care organisation. Our roots date back over 200 years. The organisation was built on a sense of community spirit, something which is exemplified by the role that everyone of our volunteers here tonight fulfils.
Norwood today is a complex, professional organisation undertaking work on behalf of Local and Central Government, yet at the core of all our services this volunteer spirit still drives everything that it does. I would like to thank each and everyone here tonight for the hard work and support that you continue to give Norwood. Without you, the organisation would not be able to continue offering specialist support services to the most vulnerable people in our community. Thank-you."
