Essex Ladies lunch in aid of Norwood & Breast Cancer Care

180 women joined Mandi Dobias as she hosted an event in aid of children and family services charity Norwood and Breast Cancer Care at Chigwell Manor Hall on Thursday 15th May 2003.

Welcoming everyone to her first charity event, Mandi explained: “Norwood and Breast Cancer Care are both charities that I hold dear to my heart. As a survivor of breast cancer, I experienced first hand, and fully appreciate, the vital role that Breast Cancer Care does supporting people with the illness, every step of the way. Norwood’s work to safeguard the future for socially disadvantaged children and families and people of all ages with learning disabilities is well known to all of us here. With one of the largest Jewish communities in Europe families in Essex we are all too aware that daily, we have to confront issues that threaten our future. Norwood is there as a safety net for our community – this is something that we must never take for granted.”

During the lunch, the ladies were serenaded by singer Stuart Peters who sang a selection of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin songs, and Craig Neil former star of the musical tribute show “Manhattan Nights” made a personal appearance singing songs by Neil Diamond.

During the lunch Sonia Musovitch, Head of Norwood’s Leonard Sainer Centre addressed the audience and thanked them for their support. She said: “Over 200 years ago, Norwood put children and families first when it was founded on the belief that every individual has the right to determine and realise their goals in life. Today, Norwood provides the community with vital, specialised care for some of the most dependent and vulnerable members of our community. Through the love, care and help we have given, thousands of disadvantaged and disabled children and adults have achieved their fullest potential. At Norwood, we need to raise at least £8m a year to keep our services running at current levels. Events like today’s lunch help Norwood to achieve this ambitious fundraising target. We are so grateful to Mandi for all the dedication and commitment she has put into this event and to everyone here today for coming along and supporting Breast Cancer Care and of course, Norwood.”

The event raised approximately £10,000
